Materials Tips Introduction

This collection of Materials TIPs (Technical Information Papers) represents the “lessons learned” of engineers, scientists and technicians of the Materials Engineering Branch. They have been culled from the collective experience of more than one hundred Branch members representing in excess of several thousand man-years of experience.

These TIPs have recently undergone a multi-level review with the intent of bringing them up to date or eliminating them as appropriate. It is our hope that anyone in the aerospace industry involved in the selection, approval or use of materials and/or materials processes will find them useful. We believe they will be particularly helpful to those individuals and organizations that have little or no materials engineering support. At the same time, we strongly recommend that users follow up or expand on the information obtained in these TIPs by consulting with the appropriate materials engineering support function in their organization.
